Difference Between Tux vs. Suit

Difference Between Tux vs. Suit

Here at Lasting Impressions in Columbus, GA, we get a lot of questions about what the differences are between tuxedos and suits. Today we’re going to talk a little bit about what some major and minor differences are, and what the exceptions there are!

Physical Differences

The main physical differences between a suit and a tuxedo is whether it has satin or not. Tuxedos traditionally have satin facing on the buttons, lapels, pocket trim, and usually a satin stripe down the side of the trousers. Suits usually don’t include any satin and have plastic buttons or buttons made of the same fabric as the rest of the suit.

Some other physical differences really just come down to accessories. If you’re wearing a suit, it’s more common to wear a long tie and high stance vest. If you’re wearing a tux, these are usually paired with bow ties, a cummerbund, or a waistcoat.

Exceptions

The exceptions to the rule include something called a “Tropical Black Tie,” which is essentially just a white dinner jacket. It’s less formal than a black tie tuxedo but more elevated than a suit. These don’t always include any satin.

We hope this helped to answer some typical concerns for our customers! If you’re searching for the perfect tux or suit for your event, book an appointment with our team at Lasting Impressions in Georgia today!
